Carmoleta P. Holtzclaw , 87, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on August 5, 2019 at her son’s residence.
She was born on October 27, 1931 in Murphy, North Carolina, the daughter of the late Verlin (Burl) Poteet and the late Lenice (Little) Poteet. Carmoleta was united in marriage to Frank W. Holtzclaw on June 19, 1953 and he preceded her in death on October 8, 1998.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Forest Park, Georgia.
Carmoleta was employed by the Georgia Department of Revenue for 37 years, rising from a processing clerk to a division director for the tax department.
Carmoleta greatly enjoyed gardening. As a hobby she crocheted hats, blankets, booties, and donated them to the local hospitals in Georgia for use in the maternity ward. Her favorite book to read was the bible and she read it five times.
Survivors include her daughter, Betty Joe Curry of Fayetteville, GA; three sons, Frank (Kay) Holtzclaw Jr. of Forest Park, GA; Roger (Michele) Holtzclaw of Griffin, GA; and Jeff (Loide) Holtzclaw of Decatur, IN; daughter, Laura “Renee” (Allan) Hayes of Sharpsburg, GA; sister, Maggie Abernathy of Murphy, NC; eight Grandchildren; and 11 Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jack Curry; brother, Vernon Poteet; two sisters, Lona Cordell and Lucille McDonald.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, August 9, 2019 in the Carl J. Mowell and Sons Funeral Home in Fayetteville, Georgia. Interment will follow in Camp Memorial Park Cemetery in Fayetteville, Georgia.
Friends will be received from 12 noon to service time on Friday at the funeral home.
