Carl J. Sorg

Carl J. Sorg, 90, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Monday, November 8, 2021, at his residence.

He was born on January 24, 1931 in Hoagland, Indiana to the late Stephen R. Sorg and Florence (Hake) Sorg Carl was united in marriage to Theresa Wyss on July 3, 1954 at St. Rose Catholic Church.

He served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he was honorably discharged following his tour of duty.

Carl was a high school graduate from Hoagland High School. He was a lifelong farmer in Allen County along with being owner and operator of the New Haven Car Wash from 1969-1995. He also was employed at Morrill Motors for 20 years retiring in 1975.

Carl was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, VFW, TPA, Allen County Farm Bureau, and the American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville.

For many years, Carl enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Theresa.

He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Theresa Sorg of Monroeville, Indiana; three daughters, Jeanne M. (Lynn) Lehrman of Spencerville, Indiana, Stephany M. (Kelby “Chip”) Marquardt of Waterloo, Indiana, and Michelle M. Swygart of Monroeville, Indiana; three sisters, Ruth Ann Lothamer of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Joan Smith of Convoy, Ohio, and Dorothy Brown of Frankford, Michigan; sister-in-law, Marilyn Sorg of Fort Wayne, Indiana; 11 grandchildren and 38 great-grandchildren.

Carl was preceded in death by a sister, Gertrude Wyss; two brothers, Raymond and Hubert Sorg; and son-in-law:  Stephen Swygart.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 13, 2021 at St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville with Father Maicaal Lobo officiating. Military graveside service will be provided by the American Legion Post #420 Color Guard at St. Rose Catholic Cemetery in Monroeville.

Family and friends will be received on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, 111 South Water Street, Monroeville, Indiana.

The reciting of the Holy Rosary will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, also at the funeral home.

Due to allergies present in Carl’s immediate family, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, preferred memorials are to St. Rose Catholic School, Monroeville EMS or Masses.
