Carl R. Hormann

Carl R. Hormann, 90, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at his daughter’s residence.

He was born May 18, 1932, in Allen County, Indiana to the late William A. Hormann and the late Clara M. (Heckmann) Hormann.

He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He was discharged after obtaining the rank of Corporal.

On February 14, 1954, Carl married Della E. Hoffman at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble and she preceded him in death on October 5, 2022. They were married 68 plus years.

Carl was a member of St. John Lutheran Church Flatrock in Monroeville, Indiana and the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur, Indiana. Carl and Della were former members of the Hoagland Area Advancement Association and both volunteered at Adams Memorial Hospital.

Carl retired in 1993 from Rea Magnet Wire in Fort Wayne with over 44 years of service. Following his retirement he worked at Martin Riley Mock Architects until March of 2001.

Carl enjoyed playing cards, loved his old John Deere tractor, polka dancing, and messing with antiques.

Survivors include his daughter, Karen (Duane) Franz of Decatur, Indiana; son, Larry W. (Becky) Hormann of Hoagland, Indiana; sister, Marilyn Hormann of Fort Wayne, Indiana; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Hormann of Decatur, Indiana and Bertie Hormann of Fort Wayne, Indiana; seven grandchildren, Heather Franz, Ben (Erin) Franz, Val (Kevin) Kickham, Megan (Ben) Ashbaugh, Erica (Jason) May, Kristin (Rob) Gresley, Riley (Camie) Hormann; and 10 great-grandchildren, Lilly, Haylee, Loralie, and Hazel Franz; Peter, Christopher, Caroline Ashbaugh; Gunner May; John and Charlotte Hormann.

In addition to his wife and parents, Carl was preceded in death by four brothers, Norbert, Richard, Al, and Art (Margie) Hormann.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 28, 2022 at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock with Pastor Douglas Christian officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery, Flatrock with Military Graveside Services by the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur. Friends and family will be received Tuesday, December 27, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. at Adams Woodcrest (enter at the main entrance and follow the signage). Family will continue to receive friends from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock in the fellowship hall and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock; Worship Anew; Heart to Heart Hospice, or the donor’s choice.

Arrangements are by the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur.
