Victor Depew, 93 years old of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, August 25, 2021, at Adams-Heritage in Monroeville.
Vic was born in Allen County, Indiana the son of the late Floyd E. Depew and Margaret (Adler) Depew and was also an honorary member of the Scherer Family in Hoagland. He married Barbara J Voirol on August 14, 1953.
He graduated from Hoagland High School in 1946 and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a radio operator embedded with the South Korean Army.
Vic held numerous positions at Antioch Lutheran Church in Hoagland attending for the past 85 years, past Post Commander and 32 year member of American Legion Post #420 in Monroeville, a member of VFW Post #10205 in New Haven, past President and 35 year member of the Heritage Lions Club including being named a Melvin Jones Fellow in 2008, and a former 21 year member of the Hoagland Volunteer Fire Department. Vic and Barb served as the Grand Marshals of the Hoagland Days Parade in 2014.
He was the former owner of 3 Kings Tavern and Restaurant in Hoagland, a manager of several grocery stores, and was Head Custodian at Southwick and Monroeville schools receiving the Golden Apple Award in 1994.
Vic had a strong passion for his faith along with his family, gardening, fishing, and the Cubs.
Surviving are his three sons, Dean A. (Nancy) Depew, Gary L. (Sally) Depew, Brian J. (Laura) Depew; his two daughters Vicki (Henry) Hutter and Kelly (Van) Ripley; 12 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Vic in death were his wife, Barbara Depew, a granddaughter, Che’ Ripley and two half-sisters, Peggy Bajza and Marie Parry.
His family will remember him in a private service and burial in the Antioch Cemetery, Hoagland.
Friends will be received from 2 PM to 4 PM and 5 PM to 8 PM, Monday, August 30 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur.
Preferred memorials are to Antioch Lutheran Church, Heritage Lions Club, or Hoagland Volunteer Fire Department.
