Herman Harkless, 84, of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on April 16, 2021 at Adams – Woodcrest following a brief illness of 3 months.
He was born on September 12, 1936 in Root Township, Adams County, the son of the late Frank Harkless and the late Iris (Hilton) Harkless. Herman was united in marriage to Myra (Black) Harkless on September 22, 1957 at the Decatur United Brethren Church in Decatur (now Cornerstone Missionary Church) and she survives.
Beginning at the age of 18, Herman began working at the Shaffer Glove Company in Decatur in various capacities until its closure as the Parker Company in the early 2000’s. In addition to his work at Shaffer, he also worked on the family farm which was a source of pride for him.
Herman had a gift of being very handy. He was mechanically inclined and could fix anything in his “Herman way”. He was very caring toward the youth, coaching numerous girl's softball teams, being active in the youth at church, and was a true “kid” at heart.
