Bruce G. Thorpe, 80, of Ossian, Indiana passed away peacefully Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at his residence.
He was born on October 2, 1942, in Trenton, New Jersey to the late Edwin G. Thorpe and the late Lolita M. (Danenberger) Thorpe. Bruce was united in marriage to Diana Scheumann Dishong on June 5, 2005 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, in Ossian, Indiana.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant during the Vietnam War, being stationed in Okinawa.
Bruce was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Ossian where he served as an elder. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #241 in Waynedale.
He graduated from Council Rock High School in Newtown, Pennsylvania and from Michigan State University in 1965 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture. He owned Georgetown Shell for 25 years, and served as Human Resources Director of Gassafy’s Wholesale Florist.
Bruce loved spending time with his family, and enjoyed playing fantasy football with his grandchildren. He enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, racquetball, golfing, and traveling. Bruce also enjoyed the ”lake life.”
Survivors include his wife, Diana Thorpe of Ossian, Indiana; son, Matthew Thorpe of Goodyear, Arizona; daughter, Gina Thorpe of Columbus, Ohio; son, Robert (Renee) Sullivan of Spencerville, Indiana; son, Scott (Amy) Sullivan of Sadieville, Kentucky; daughter, Tisha (Jason) Laley of Ossian, Indiana; daughter, Tina (Rory) Geiger of Ossian, Indiana; daughter, Tiffany (Doug) Roose of Ossian, Indiana; daughter, Tonya Pynaert of Ossian, Indiana; sister, Susan (Mark) Stenken of Ottsville, Pennsylvania; nephew, Andrew Stenken of Oakland, California; 22 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Bruce was preceded in death by wife, Linda (France) Thorpe.
A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 6514 E 750 N, Ossian, IN 46777 with Pastor Samuel Wirgau officiating. Burial will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Cemetery in Ossian, Indiana. Military graveside honors will be conducted by American Legion Post #241 of Waynedale, Indiana.
Family and friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 18, 2023, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
Preferred memorials can be given to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
