Bradley J. Martz, 61, of Decatur, Indiana passed away Saturday afternoon, January 11, 2025, at his residence due to a sudden cardiac event.
Brad was born on October 2, 1963 in Meridian, Mississippi to Robert J. & Sharon K. (Magsamen) Martz
He was united in marriage to Jill Swearingen on September 5, 1987, in Cloverdale, Indiana.
Brad was a member of East Allen County Church of Christ. Brad served as an Elder, Bible school teacher, and mentor for many years at the church. He was a member of the Decatur Rotary Club, United Way of Adams County, Decatur Chamber of Commerce, and Adams County Sheriff’s Merit Board. He taught Junior Achievement and coached youth soccer and baseball. Brad was involved with other various organizations within the community.
Brad graduated from Adams Central High School in 1982. He then went on to getting his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminology from Indiana State University in 1986. He worked for Indiana Excise Police for four years, and then went to the Adams County Sheriff Department, where he served as a Deputy for about a decade. He later was employed at Decatur Bank & Trust as a loan/security officer. Brad was most recently a Financial Advisor with Edward Jones with 24 years of service.
He loved spending time outdoors, especially in the woods. He enjoyed watching Indiana University sports, Colts football, and NASCAR. He truly loved and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. But more than his individual accomplishments, business ventures, personal relationships formed, and community service, he was a devout Christian who cherished his relationship with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
He is survived by his wife, Jill Martz of Decatur, Indiana; two sons, Caleb (Lauren) Martz of Manchester, Missouri and Connor (Audra) Martz of Little Rock, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Easton, Hadley, James “JJ” and Benjamin “Benny”; parents, Robert & Sharon Martz of Decatur, Indiana; father & mother-in-law, Donald & Karen Swearingen of Clay City, Indiana; and brother-in-law, Gregg Swearingen of Franklin, Tennessee.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, January 17, 2025, at East Allen County Church of Christ (3800 Minnich Road in New Haven, Indiana 46774). A Private Burial will be held later that day at Decatur Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home in Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Preferred memorials are to Hope Alive (Bluffton) or Shults Lewis Child and Family Services in Valparaiso, Indiana. Arrangements are by Zwick and Jahn Funeral Homes of Decatur, Indiana.
