Betty Marie Young, 89, of Berne, Indiana passed away Monday afternoon, October 28, 2019, at Swiss Village in Berne where she had been a resident for 12 years.
She was born on December 26, 1929 in Nappanee, Indiana to John Mark Blosser and Ella Mabel (Brechbill) Blosser. On September 1, 1950, Betty was united in marriage to Rev. Donald R. Young and he preceded her in death on July 5, 1997.
She was a member of West Missionary Church in Berne.
Betty was a homemaker and a dedicated pastor’s wife. She filled the role of pastor’s wife by being very active in many different aspects of church life. She followed and supported her husband’s ministry as he served congregations in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. She was one of the founding authors of the Missionary Cadets program. This group was instrumental in the creation and publication of a curriculum specific to the Missionary Church and its teachings. Children would earn badges and accomplishments based on attendance and participation in Wednesday evening church services.
Grandchildren and children in general were especially close to Betty’s heart. She would design opportunities for Bible school both at home and at church for children. Additionally, Betty loved to go camping, cooking, and also loved to entertain. Very often missionaries and their families would be entertained and fed as they visited the area.
