Ben C. Macias

Ben C. Macias, 92, of Tocsin, Indiana passed away Monday, November 27, 2023, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana.  Ben was a devoted brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather.  He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Victoria (O’Campo) Macias.  Ben will be remembered as a veteran of the Korean War, for his large close-knit family, his cheeky grin, and his sharp mind.

Ben was born on January 22, 1931 in Riesel, Texas the son of the late Cecil A. and Beatrice (Calderon) Macias.  Ben and Victoria married in 1954 and raised nine children.  He worked for over 20 years with Hagerman Construction and later as an owner operator driver until his retirement in mid-1980.  In retirement, Ben enjoyed time with his family, gardening, and traveling the United States.

Surviving are four siblings, Joseph Macias, Paul Macias, Nancy Melendez, and Daniel A. Macias; eight children, Marie (Jack) Blacksten, Mona (Edward) Senter, Vincent (Patti) Macias, Juanita (Robert) Weiskittel, Margaret (John) Witham, Teresa (Larry) Harness, Irene (James) Green, and Annette (Scott) McComas; 27 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceded in death by three siblings, Freddy Macias, Cecil A. Macias Jr., and Virginia Guardiola; one daughter, Julia Tribolet; grandchildren, Ben J. Lopez, Liana M. Senter, and Nicholas Robert Weiskittel.

A Funeral Liturgy Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 6, 2023, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur with Father Dave Ruppert officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #43.

Family and friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2023, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials can be given to St. Joseph Catholic School, Decatur.
