Barbara A. “Barbie” Liechty, 87, of Berne, Indiana passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, December 6, 2024, at Swiss Village in Berne.
She was born on March 28, 1937, in Berne, Indiana to the late Paul E. and Sarah Anna (Felber) Liechty.
Barbie was a member of the First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana.
She loved her family and spent countless hours playing games with her nieces and nephews as they grew up. Growing up on the family farm, she had many different jobs helping out in many ways. She had a deep love for the Chicago Cubs Baseball, and listening to Adams Central and South Adams Sports on her radio. Barbie had the special ability to recall and remember events from years ago and found joy in sharing those memories again with family. Most of all she had a smile as big as her heart.
Barbie is survived by her niece, Becky (Brock) Zehr of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nephew, Tom Liechty of Decatur, Indiana; nephew, Rick (June) Liechty of Berne, Indiana; nephew, Jeff (Cheryl) Liechty of Berne, Indiana; niece, Jenny (Roger) Neuenschwander of Berne, Indiana; many great-nieces and nephews; and many great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Vernon D. (Ava) Liechty, and Byron W. (Ruth Mary) Liechty; great-niece, Renee Neuenschwander-Andrews; and great-nephew, Nicholas Liechty.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2024, at the First Mennonite Church in Berne, Indiana with Pastor Jim Schwartz officiating. Burial will follow at M.R.E. Cemetery in Berne, Indiana.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
Preferred memorials can be given to the MCC Meat Canner.
