Anna Louise Amstutz

Anna Louise Amstutz, 95, of Berne, Indiana passed away Sunday, April 14, 2024, at Swiss Village.

She was born on August 31, 1928, in Tientsin, China to the late Peter J. and Jennie Mae (Gottshall) Boehr, who served as Mennonite missionaries there.

Anna Lou was united in marriage to Jonathan L. Amstutz on June 12, 1954, in Omaha, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on September 2, 2020.

Most recently, she was a member of First Missionary Church in Berne, Indiana where she volunteered as a Sunday school teacher, and as a prayer and notes encourager to members. Anna Lou served with her husband when he was an Associate Pastor at First Missionary for several years, and as Pastor of Spring Hill Church for three years.

Anna Lou was Valedictorian of her graduating class of 1946 from Pandora (Ohio) High School.  After graduation she attended Grace College of the Bible (Omaha, Nebraska) and received her RN degree from Bethel Deaconess School of Nursing in Newton, Kansas. Anna Lou then served as the Campus Nurse at Fort Wayne Bible Institute, where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She served with the Christian and Missionary Alliance as a missionary and nurse in India for 23 years, alongside her husband.  Upon their return from missionary service, Anna Lou was a Registered Nurse with Adams County Home Health from 1978-1996.

She enjoyed gardening, roses, feeding and observing birds. Anna Lou was dedicated to a healthy lifestyle and exercising. She loved praying for and encouraging others.

Anna Lou is survived by her son, Tim (Kathy) Amstutz of Chicago, Illinois; son, Steve Amstutz of Evanston, Illinois; daughter, Priscilla (Dirk) Riveness of Minneapolis, Minnesota; brother, Ernest (Louise) Boehr of Altadena, California; six grandchildren, Katrina (Jonathan) Castaneda, Greta (Stephen) Anderson, Lukas (Mackenzie) Amstutz, Elise (Troy) Sporre, Luke (Halle) Riveness and Leif Riveness; and three great-grandchildren, Aria and Ty Castaneda, and Charli Anderson.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, John, Richard and Charles Boehr and a sister, Mary Ellen Rowland.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 19, 2024, at Swiss Village Chapel, 1350 W. Main Street, Berne, IN  46711 with Pastor Jim Schwartz officiating.

Friends and family will be received from 9:45 a.m. until the service time at Swiss Village and then following the services also.

Preferred memorials are to The Christian and Missionary Alliance or First Missionary Church, Berne
