Amanda H. Wickey

Amanda H. Wickey, 82, of Berne, Indiana passed away Tuesday evening, January 16, 2024, at Adams Woodcrest in Decatur.

She was born on March 11, 1941, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Henry H. Schwartz and the late Katherine (Wickey) Schwartz. She married Samuel M. Wickey on August 24, 1958, in Adams County, Indiana and he preceded her in death in 2011.

Amanda attended Open Book Ministries in Berne, Indiana.

Before she became ill, she volunteered for Compassionate Ministries in Berne, Indiana.

She was faithful in reading her Bible daily. Her selfless nature was evident throughout her life. Amanda enjoyed serving others, baking and crocheting blankets. Above all, she cherished family and the moments spent with each one.

Amanda is survived by her ten children, Ruth (Tim) Gage of Decatur, Indiana, Susan (Larry) Crismore of Berne, Indiana, Amanda (Stuart) Baily of Geneva, Indiana, Kate (Kenny) Lairson of Berne, Indiana, Mary (Rusty Sliger) Fryback of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Sam Wickey of Castle Rock, Colorado, Dan (Tammy) Wickey of Hutchinson, Kansas, Marie (Jeff) Musick of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Henry (Kara) Wickey of Linn Grove, Indiana, and Paul (Rochelle) Wickey of Linn Grove, Indiana; three sisters, Rebecca H. Eicher, Sarah H. Hilty, and Mary H. Shetler; one brother, Paul H. Schwartz; 29 grandchildren, including three step-grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren, including seven step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, with two more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Amy Renee Meyer; grandson, Zion Timothy Gage; and six brothers, David H. Schwartz, Henry H. K. Schwartz Jr., Martin H. Schwartz, William H. Schwartz, Andrew H. Schwartz, and Daniel H. Schwartz.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2024, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, Indiana. Burial will follow at Westlawn Cemetery in Geneva, Indiana.

The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 18, 2024, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel in Berne, and one hour before the service on Friday.

Preferred memorials can be given to Compassionate Ministries.
