Alvina A. Sauer, 101, of Decatur Indiana passed away Friday, November 6, 2020, at Adams Woodcrest
She was born May 17, 1919, in Adams Coounty to the late Martin Aumann and the late Ida (Bultemeier) Aumann. Alvina was united in marriage to Harold G. Sauer on June 6, 1948, at St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and he preceded her in death on October 8, 2004.
She graduated from Monmouth High School in 1937. She was a life-long member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen. Alvina was active in several aspects of the church, always and humbly “behind-the-scenes”. She served on the Archives Committee and was active in producing the Anniversary Books for the church.
Alvina served as a secretary for Boxberger’s of Fort Wayne, Indiana and retired in 1994. She also was employed at Montgomery Ward at Ft. Wayne Southtown and the Williams Co-Op Elevator.
Alvina taught all the children and grandchildren how to wash clothes with a wringer. She took many pictures of her family and the various activities they enjoyed. Along with her husband, Harold, she also pursued a picture framing hobby. A survivor of the Great Depression, she developed a knack for frugality not duplicated in today’s society.
She is survived by a daughter, Linda Abdon of Decatur, Indiana; son, Dr. Ken (Karla Cruise) Sauer of South Bend, Indiana; son, Fred Sauer of Decatur, Indiana; son, Mark (Susan) Sauer of Bluffton, Indiana; sister, Marlene Fuhrman of Decatur, Indiana; sister-in-law, Evelyn Aumann of Decatur, Indiana; Harold’s siblings brother, Ralph (Marilyn) Sauer of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Clarice “Kelly” Porter of Decatur, Indiana; 10 Grandchildren; and 13 Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Sauer; four sisters and their spouses, Erna (Carl) Melcher, Marie (Morris) Wiegman, Florence (Gilbert) Hoffman and Eloise Aumann; one brother, Fritz Aumann, and brother-in-law, Otto Furhman; daughter-in-law: Lori Sauer.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 13, 2020, at the St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen with Pastor Peter Brock officiating. Burial will follow after service at St. John Lutheran Cemetery.
Family and friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at St. John Lutheran Church – Bingen and one hour prior to services at the church on Friday. Masks will be required for all visitors.
Preferred memorials are to Concordia Theological Seminary, Ft. Wayne; Worship Anew; or St. John Lutheran Church – 175 th Mission Fund
