Alton D Thieme

October 10, 1948 — May 4, 2024

Alton D. Thieme, 75, of Monroeville, Indiana passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024 at River Terrace Retirement Community in Bluffton, Indiana.

He was born on October 10, 1948, in Decatur, Indiana to the late Arnold Thieme and Elma (Etzler) Thieme.

Al was a 1966 graduate of Monmouth High School. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur.

He was employed at GE in Decatur for 20 plus years working in production and then was employed at Harbor Freight Tools for 13 years working in retail sales. He was a long time farmer for most of his life.

Al proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War attaining the rank of E5. He was honorably discharged in 1971.

Al enjoyed watching his grandchildren regardless of the activity they were involved with, good or bad! He was an avid Indiana Hoosier fan. His love for farming carried over to a passion for gardening, which his children recall being large, full of produce, and full of weeds. In his spare time, Al went to various tractor steam shows and car shows. He was well known for his 1972 Plymouth Duster which he purchased after being discharged from the United States Army. In his retirement years, he restored the Duster with a few modifications and entered it in many car shows. Another hobby that Al enjoyed was putting together his custom built train set, which was a continual work in progress.

Survivors include his son, Jason A. Thieme of Decatur, Indiana; three daughters, Heather (Mark) Anderson of Monroeville, Indiana, Amber (Darin) Franz of Monroeville, Indiana, and Erin (Ben) Franz of Monroeville, Indiana; sister, Anita (Mike A.)
