Alta Mae Thatcher

Alta Mae Thatcher, 90, of Decatur, Indiana passed away on Friday, August 30, 2024, at Markle Health and Rehabilitation in Markle, Indiana.

She was born on March 11, 1934, in Adams County to the late Russell Siders and the late Evelyn E. (Schillinger) Clark. Alta Mae was united in marriage to Lester Thatcher and he preceded her in death on September 30, 1982.

She was a parishioner at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur.

Alta Mae faithfully served her family as a homemaker. She also volunteered in her younger years at a local second hand store in Decatur.

Alta Mae loved to sew, needle work and embroidery work.

Survivors include three sons, David Thatcher of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Rusty (Sue) Brown  of Singers Glen, Virginia, and Lowell (Shirley Bailey) Thatcher of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Evelyn Thatcher-Fields of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Shirley Ann Clark of Decatur, Indiana;17 grandchildren, Alex Shannon, Younasse Doghmi, Andrea Thatcher, Jonathan Thatcher, Travis Thatcher, Travis Fields, Cody Fields, Haley Brown, Shane Brown, Rusty Brown, Nicole Brown, Gladys Brown, Matthew Brown, Michael Larry, Jonia R. King Brian Smith, and Michael Dearden; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Alta Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Thatcher; son, Anthony Wayne Thatcher; three sisters, Joanne Blum, Mary Siders, and Shelby Jean Hirschy.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father David Violi as Mass Celebrant and Father David Ruppert as Mass Concelebrant officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Decatur, Indiana.

Family and friends will be received from 5-7 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the church. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Monday, September 16, 2024, at the funeral home.
