Alberta I. Beitler, a beloved mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2025, in Decatur, Indiana at the age of 97. Born on October 6, 1927, in Huntington, Indiana, Alberta led a life filled with love, service, and devotion to her family and community.
She graduated from Bluffton High School in 1945 and embarked on an industrious career that included 18 years of service at Berco. Before her time at Berco, she made contributions at Bixler Insurance, Neuenschwander License Branch, and Dunbar Furniture. Alberta's professional journey reflected her strong work ethic and commitment to her roles.
Alberta was not just a dedicated employee but also a proud member of her church and community. She was an active member of Cross United Church of Christ in Berne, Indiana, where she made significant contributions as a Sunday School teacher, youth fellowship counselor, and church elder. Her civic engagement extended to the Berne Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary and the Berne Garden Club, demonstrating her dedication to enriching the lives of those around her.
In her personal life, Alberta was a passionate needlepoint enthusiast and shared a love for travel with her husband, Calvin. Together, they cherished their winters spent in their Florida home, creating lifelong memories that her family will treasure forever.
Alberta's family includes her daughter, Rebecca Liechty of Fort Wayne, Indiana; sons, David (Diane) Beitler of Berne, Indiana and Thomas (Cindy) Beitler of Plymouth, Wisconsin; and daughter, Jill (Tony) Miller of Williamsburg, Indiana. She was the proud grandmother of ten grandchildren: Jenni Bertels, Jim Liechty, Kurt Beitler, Kristin (Joe) Adkins, Kraig (Jaime) Beitler, Josh Beitler, Aaron (Jenny) Beitler, Sean Beitler, Marilyn (Zach) Tompkins, and Allison (Joe) Tubesing. In addition, Alberta was blessed with 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson who will carry on her legacy.
Alberta is preceded in death by her husband, Calvin; her son, Charles “Chuck” Beitler; and her son-in-law, Joseph Liechty. She also mourned the loss of her grandson, Kent Beitler, and two sisters, Louise Paul and Elsie Hitzfield, as well as two brothers, Dale and Paul Schenkel.
Visitation for Alberta will be held at Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home- Yager-Kirchhofer Chapel, located at 365 W Main St, Berne, Indiana, on March 5, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again on March 6, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. A funeral service will follow on March 6, 2025, at the same location from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
Alberta I. Beitler leaves behind a rich legacy of kindness, dedication, and love that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her. Her memory will be cherished by her family and the community she served so faithfully.
Preferred memorials can be given to Cross United Church of Christ, Rock Steady Boxing -Fighting Back Against Parkinson’s Disease, or donor’s choice.
