Albert “Al” Selking, 97, of Fort Wayne, Indiana passed away Saturday evening, October 5, 2024, at his residence.
He was born on August 28, 1927, at home in rural Adams County, Indiana to the late Henry and Sene (Thieme) Selking. Al was united in marriage to Elsie R. Hofmann on October 18, 1950, in Van Wert County, Ohio.
Al served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and served in various capacities. He was a member of the American Legion Post #409 in Leo, Indiana.
Al was a 1946 graduate of Monmouth High School. He worked at Central Soya for 42 years working in Decatur, Indianapolis, and Fort Wayne, Indiana. In his retirement, he worked part-time at Georgetown Bowling Alley and Meijer in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
He was a huge I.U. Hoosier Basketball and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed spending summers at Dallas Lake fishing and relaxing. Some of his notable hobbies were pitching horseshoes, golfing, and bowling.
Al is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Elsie Selking of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Cindy (Ron) Corlew of Leo, Indiana; daughter, Joyce (Robert) Witte of Hartsel, Colorado; son, Alan (Susan) Selking of Westfield, Indiana; sister-in-law, Carol Selking of Decatur, Indiana; 6 grandchildren, Chris (Stacey) Corlew, Craig (Rachel) Corlew, Sara (Chris) Ray, Rachel (Ryan) Monarch, Andrea (Ryan) Wegeng, and Ryan (Bekah) Selking; nine great-grandchildren, Michael Corlew, Aidan Corlew, Alyssa Corlew, Ashlyn Corlew, Adelyn Ray, Jackson Wegeng, Ellie Wegeng, Micah Selking, and Joshua Selking.
Al was preceded in death by a son, Terry Lee Selking in infancy; brother, Reiny Selking; sister, Alma Jones; brother, Gerdy Selking; and brother, Ferd Selking.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2024, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana with Pastor Adam McDowell officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peters Lutheran Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana with Military Honors will be rendered by the United States Army in conjunction with the American Legion Post #409.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2024, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
Preferred memorials are to Worship Anew or St. Peters Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne.
