Richard E. Spieth, 71 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2006 in the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home located in Fort Wayne, Indiana following an illness of one week. He was born on Thursday, November 1, 1934 in Monroeville, Indiana the son of the late Kenneth Spieth and the late Dorothy (Sites) Spieth. He was married to the late Mary L. Spieth for 48 years before she died in March of this year. He served in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1955. Richard was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Monroeville, Indiana. He was also a member of V.F.W. #2457 of New Haven, the American Legion, U.A.W. #98, the Navy Club, the Masonic Lodge #740 of New Haven and the New Haven Conservation Club. He retired in 1985 from Navistar with 30 years of service and enjoyed gardening and hunting. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Michael (Kelly A.) Tons of Angola, Indiana, son, Gregg R. (Shelley) Spieth of Monroeville, Indiana, sister, Mrs. Jack (Barbara A.) Garver of Cameron Park, California, and four grandchildren, Mrs. Kenneth (Brittany) Johnson, Stephanie Tons, Ashley Spieth, and Halie Spieth. Preceding Richard in death was one sister, Pat Densel. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2006 in the St. Mark's Lutheran Church with Pastor William Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, October 16 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana. There will also be calling from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Tuesday at the church. Preferred memorials are to Monroeville EMS or the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home.
