Dorothy Marie Werling, 87 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 2:12 p.m on Sunday, April 4, 2010 in the Adams Memorial Hospital located in Decatur, Indiana. Dorothy was born on Thursday, November 2, 1922 in Decatur, Indiana the daughter of the late Herman Hegerfeld and the late Anna (Hockemeyer) Hegerfeld. She married the late Gerhard Werling on May 5, 1951 in St. John Lutheran Church, Flatrock in rural Monroeville, Indiana and he passed away on February 27, 2009. Dorothy was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim, where she was involved with the Morning Glories Craft Group; the Fire Department Auxiliary in Preble, Indiana; and was a graduate of Hoagland High School Class of 1941. Dorothy was a homemaker and worked 12 years for the Knitting Mill in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Among her many joys in life, she enjoyed gardening and sewing. Surviving are her son, Dennis (Angie) Werling of Decatur, Indiana; son, Duane (Kim) Werling of Pendleton, Indiana; son, Michael G. (Judy) Werling of Decatur, Indiana; daughter, Sharon (Phil) Franke of Monroeville, Indiana; brother, Robert (Helene) Hegerfeld of Hoagland, Indiana; sister, Bernice Caston of Ossian, Indiana; brother, Arnold "Peanut" Hegerfeld of Hoagland, Indiana; sister, Marceil (Al) Baatz of Columbia City, Indiana; eight grandchildren: Jason (Nicole) Werling; Kristie (Brian) Schlemmer; Elyse Werling; Kelsey Werling; Andrew Werling; Sara Werling; Brittany Franke; Anna Franke; and one great-granddaughter: Maya Rose Schlemmer. Preceding Dorothy in death was one sister, Luella Lepper. A 10:15 a.m. Prayer Service will be held April 9, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana followed by an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service in the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Friedheim with Rev. Daniel Dahling officiating. Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Friedheim. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the prayer service at the funeral home on Friday. Preferred memorials are to Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim Building Fund; Worship For Shut-Ins; or Wyneken School.
