Verlyn R. Geyer, 81 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away 7:14 a.m. on Friday, September 19, 2008 at his residence following an extended illness. Verlyn was born on Tuesday, November 2, 1926 in Bluffton, Indiana the son of the late Eli Geyer and the late Lydia (Steffen) Geyer. He married Helen I. Michaud on December 8, 1946 in Willshire, Ohio and she passed away on August 24, 2002. Verlyn was an active and longtime member of the Decatur Church of God. Verlyn had worked at Zollner Corporation in Ft. Wayne, Indiana where he retired in 1993. Surviving are his daughter, Darlene K. (Rex) Johnson of Decatur, Indiana, son, Edwin W. Geyer of Decatur, Indiana, son, Roger A. Geyer of New Haven, Indiana, sister, LaVera (Homer) Heyerly of Bluffton, Indiana, sister, Ilean (Leonard) Steffen of Bluffton, Indiana, brother, Glen Geyer of Decatur, Indiana, brother, George Geyer of Decatur, Indiana, sister, Dorothy (Dave) Vanhorn of Decatur, Indiana, four grandchildren: Shawn Geyer, Joel Geyer, Christa Watson, Meghann Geyer, and four great-grandchildren. Preceding Verlyn in death were four brothers, Loyal W., Donald W., Earl W., and Lester Geyer; and one sister, Berthlean Reinhard. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 23, 2008 in the Decatur Church of God with Dr. Robert Brink and Pastor Ed Lovelace officiating. Interment will follow in the Apostolic Christian Cemetery, Bluffton, Indiana. Friends will be received from 1-4 and 5-8 p.m., Monday, September 22, 2008 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Preferred memorials are to Decatur Church of God Building Fund.
