Violet L. Kreischer, 96 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 9:50 a.m. on Monday, May 30, 2011 in the Woodcrest Nursing Center located in Decatur. Violet was born on Friday, March 5, 1915 in Adams County, Indiana the daughter of the late Welker E. Woodruff and the late Nora A (Hoffman) Woodruff. She married the late H. Darrel Kreischer on August 24, 1935 in Covington, Kentucky and he passed away on July 10, 1980. Violet was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decatur; and was a former member of the Ladies of the Moose. Violet was a homemaker. Surviving are her daughter, Sharon Cowans of Springfield, Ohio; daughter, Janice Schelsky of Stillwater, Oklahoma; son, Allan Kreischer of St. Paris, Ohio; nine grandchildren: Chris (Colette) Cowans; Kelly (David) Rumschlag; Kimberly (Norman) Reilly; Tammy (Brian) Huckaby; Shelli (Chris) Shoaf; Chad (Denise) Kreischer; Ben Kreischer; Jeremy (Kristi) Kreischer; and Nick (Carmen) Kreischer; sixteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Violet in death were 4 sisters, Marie Marbach, Ruth Andrews, Georgia Wallace, and Marjorie Daniels; 1 brother, Glenn Woodruff; 2 sons-in-laws, Daniel Cowans and Chuck Schelsky; and 1 grandson, Troy Allen Kreischer. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 3, 2011 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Chaplain John Follett officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Indiana. Friends will be received one hour prior to services Friday in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to First United Methodist Church in Decatur; or Mooseheart.
