John T. Smith

John T. Smith, 76 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2007 at his residence following an illness of one year. He was born on Wednesday, January 29, 1930 in Centerville, Tennessee the son of the late Thomas E. Smith and the late Lily P. (McKee) Smith. He married Freda V. Hughes on August 24, 1956 in Angola, Indiana. He was a member of Monroeville Church of the Nazarene and the Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. John enjoyed gardening, hunting and raising pigeons. He retired in 1992 from Fleetwood industries in Decatur, Indiana after 17 years of service and had previously operated Smitty's Marathon in Monroeville, Indiana for ten years. Surviving are his wife, Freda V. Smith of Monroeville, Indiana, son, J. Tony (Linda) Smith, Jr. of Monroeville, Indiana, son, Michael E. (Vicky) Bohrer of Killeen, Texas, daughter, Mrs. Mark (Sheila A.) Smith of Warsaw, Indiana, daughter, Mrs. Rick (Cathy M.) Smith of Monroeville, Indiana, son, Timothy W. (Rita) Smith of Monroeville, Indiana, daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Gelana E.) Korte of Decatur, Indiana, brother, Thomas Smith of Centerville, Tennessee, sister, Girleen Copley of Centerville, Tennessee, sister, Thelma Shelby of Centerville, Tennessee, sister, Angie Dainwood of Columbus, Tennessee, 16 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Preceding John in death were three brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 27, 2007 in the Monroeville Church of the Nazarene with Rev. Jenny Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 26 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday Preferred memorials are to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana, Monroeville Church of the Nazarene or the Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department.
