Roman J. Brite, 91 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2009 in the Woodcrest Nursing Center. Mr. Brite was born on Monday, July 30, 1917 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Julius Brite and the late Gertrude (Geels) Brite. Roman met his first wife Joyce Murgartroyd in Gloucester, England during WW II whom he married, on September 23, 1944 in Moira, Ireland. She was a member of the (WAAF) Woman's Auxiliary Air Force for the country of England and she passed away on January 25, 1988. He married his second wife, Dolores Dorie (Braun) Wyss on April 29, 1990 in Decatur, Indiana and she survives. He was a veteran of the United States Army during WWII serving in European Theater in the 271 Infantry, from 1941 - 1945. Roman was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #43, Moose Lodge #1311 and the V.F.W. He attended Pontifical College Josephinum Seminary in Columbus, Ohio from 1932 to 1935 and was a graduate of Decatur Catholic High School. He was a lifelong Root Township farmer for over 60 years. Surviving are his wife, Dolores Wyss-Brite of Decatur, son, Paul A. (Karen) Brite of Decatur, son, Greg D. Brite of Decatur, daughter, Susan L. (Ken) Fox of Momence, Illinois, daughter, Margaret (Bob) Blauvelt of Fort Wayne, daughter, Carole Brite of Evanston, Illinois, step-son, Joe (Cindy) Wyss of Decatur, step-daughter, Kathy (Eldon) Fink of Centerville, Ohio, step-daughter, Karen (Dan) Weber of Decatur, step-daughter-in-law, Amanda (Eric) Sutter of Decatur, brother, Al Brite of Indianapolis, sister, Marianne (Reinhard) Selking of Decatur, sister, Justine Walter of Fort Wayne, fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, thirteen step-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild. Preceding Roman in death were son, Alan Brite; step-son, Jerry Wyss, step-daughter, Mary Ann Wyss brother, John Brite and two sisters, Frances Griffith & Sr. Regina (Margaret) Brite . A family prayer service will be held at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Benedict Kakwezi and Father David Voors officiating. Interment will follow in the St Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors by American Legion Post #43 Color Guard. Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Woodcrest Chapel and from 3:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Rosary Service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday. Preferred memorials are Masses to the church or donations to the St. Mary's Catholic Church or the St. Joseph Catholic School.
