Fred W. Schimmel Jr., 79 years old of Fort Wayne, Indiana, died peacefully on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 in the Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne. He was born on Wednesday, October 12, 1927 in Cleveland, Ohio the son of the late Fred W. Schimmel, Sr. and the late Theresa (Krumesz) Schimmel. He married Ruth Ann Selking on April 29, 1978 in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Fred served in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948 and retired from International Harvester in 1988 with over 30 years of service as a product engineer. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church of Fort Wayne, Indiana and a former member of Faith Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Surviving are his wife, Ruth Ann Schimmel of Fort Wayne, Indiana, son, Fred W. (Margaret) Schimmel III of Fort Wayne, Indiana, son, Robert C. Schimmel of St. Louis, Missouri, son, C. Bruce Schimmel of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, four grandchildren, Robert (Dana) Schimmel, David Schimmel, Emily (David) Harsani, & Alexis Schimmel and three great-grandchildren, Kayleigh Schimmel, Devin Schimmel & Gracelyn Harsani. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007 in the Peace Lutheran Church with Pastor Galen Drawbaugh officiating. Interment will follow in Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, April 6 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Preferred memorials are to Peace Lutheran Church or Worship for Shut-Ins.
