Mary LuAnn Spieth, 69 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 6:38 a.m. on Thursday, March 16, 2006 at her residence following an illness of 3 years. LuAnn was born on June 11, 1936 in Monroeville, Indiana, the daughter of the late Lorrel Rhodes and the late Miriam (Parnin) Rhodes. She married Richard E. Spieth on December 22, 1957 in the Monroeville United Methodist Church in Monroeville, Indiana. LuAnn was a member of the Monroeville United Methodist Church; a life member of the National Education Association; Indiana Retired Teachers Association; American Legion Auxiliary Unit 420; AARP; and the Navy Club. Mary enjoyed reading, needlework, baking, cooking and traveling. LuAnn taught at the Monroeville Elementary School for 32 years, retiring in 1990. She was a graduate of Monroeville High Class of 1954 and went on to attend Ball State Teacher's College, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in 1958 and her Master's Degree in 1963. Surviving are her husband, Richard E. Speith of Monroeville, Indiana, daughter, Mrs. Michael (Kelly A.) Tons of Angola, Indiana, son, Gregg R. (Shelley) Speith of Monroeville, Indiana, and four grandchildren: Mrs. Kenneth (Brittany) Johnson, Stephanie Tons, Ashley Spieth, and Halie Spieth. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 19, 2006 in the St. Mark's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Paul Row officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, March 18, 2006 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Preferred memorials are to Monroeville EMS or the St. Mark's Lutheran Church.
