Mary Ann Ewell, 83 years old of Preble, Indiana, passed away at 7:14 a.m. on Saturday, February 4, 2012 in the St. Joseph Hospital located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Her death resulted from injuries sustained in a kitchen fire two weeks before. Mary was born on Tuesday, February 28, 1928 in Salmonier, Newfoundland, Canada the daughter of the late Patrick Bennett and the late Gertrude (Snow) Bennett. She married her first husband, Howard Mowery and he preceded her in death. She married her second husband, Edgar C. "Eddie" Ewell on June 30, 1954 and he passed away on December 22, 2001. Mary was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church - Preble of rural Decatur, Indiana. Mary formerly worked with her husband Eddie in the operation of the Monarch Specialties in Ossian, Indiana. Prior to Monarch Specialties, she was employed by Thunderbird Products in Decatur and Preble Restaurant. She entered the United States from Canada in the early 1950's after she met her first husband, Howard, while working at a United States Naval base in Newfoundland. Surviving are her brother, Leo (Mary) Bennett of Preble, Indiana; brother, Walter (Laura) Bennett of Newfoundland, Canada; sister-in-law, Irene (Fred) Bieberich of Decatur, Indiana; sister-in-law, Gladys (Gene) Thiele of Harlan, Indiana; several nieces and nephews. Preceding Mary in death were a son, Robert Mowery; five brothers: Jack, Ernest, Frederick, Patrick, and Jim Bennett; two sisters: Nell Short and Lill Haynes; one brother-in-law, Ervin Ewell. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, 2012 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble with Dr. Rev. Daniel J. Brege officiating. Interment will follow in the St Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery, Preble. Friends will be received from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
