Scott C. Lay, 50 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at his residence following an illness of seven months. He was born on Friday, April 24, 1959 in Portland, Indiana the son of the late Sidney C. Lay and Peggy A. Miller. He married Sheryl A. Wenger on July 19, 1980 in St. Rose Catholic Church, Monroeville. Scott served in the United States Navy from 1977 to 1979. He was a member of the St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville; a former member of the Post 420 American Legion in Monroeville; a former member of the Allen County Sheriff's Reserve and a graduate of Jay County High School Class of 1977. Scott was a technical support engineer for Brocade Communications Co. and previously McData for the past 12 years. He was a volunteer with the TECH Team at Cornerstone Youth Center and enjoyed working on the computers at St. Joseph Catholic School, both in Monroeville. Surviving are his wife, Sheryl A. Lay of Monroeville, three daughters; Kayla E. Lay, & Kristina R. Lay both of Monroeville and Amanda M. Lay of Muncie, Indiana; two sons, Jason S. Lay & Brandon M. Lay both of Monroeville, mother, Peggy A. (Roger) Bagley of Carbondale, Illinois, sister, Teresa (Leo) Bodensteiner of Bellingham, Washington, brother, Samuel (Jean) Lay of Superior, Colorado, brother, Stephen (Cathy) Lay of Carbondale, Illinois, paternal grandmother, Virginia Lay of Warsaw, Indiana, maternal grandmother, Ruth Brewer of Carbondale, Illinois, maternal grandmother, Georgia Miller of Carbondale, Illinois, two grandchildren; Madeline & McKinley Voisard both of Monroeville and twenty-one nieces & nephews. A prayer service will be held at 9:25 a.m. Tuesday, April 6, 2010 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Rose Catholic Church with Fr. Stephen Colchin officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Rose Catholic Cemetery, Monroeville. Friends will be received from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 5, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana. A Rosary service will be held at 8:00 p.m. following visitation at the funeral home.
