Frederick Joseph Hoffman, 80 years old of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away at 3:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 22, 2006 at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Fred was born on May 29, 1926 in Boscobel, Wisconsin, the son of the late Walter N. Hoffman Sr. and the late Pauline (Rogers) Hoffman. Fred was a 30 year member of the Hoagland Fire Department. In his spare time, Fred enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing cards, and his garden. Fred was a retired self-employed contractor; worked at the 3-Kings Restaurant in Hoagland and was formerly employed by the Rea Magnet Wire and the New Haven Equity Exchange. He also sheared sheep for over 50 years. Fred was a veteran of World War II where he served as a Paratrooper in the United States Army in the Asian Theater 108th Regiment of the 11th Airborne Divison. Surviving are his son, Lynn (Carla) Hoffman of Fremont, Indiana, daughter, Cheryl (Jim) Brockmann of New Haven, Indiana, daughter, Deborah (DeWayne) Gallmeyer of Decatur, Indiana, son, Dean (Barbara) Hoffman of Hoagland, Indiana, daughter, Rebecca (Jay) Springer of Stow, Ohio, brother, Walter N. Hoffman Jr. of Hoagland, Indiana, sister, Betty Guenin of Hoagland, Indiana, brother, Don (Joan) Hoffman of Hoagland, Indiana, ninteen grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded in death by one grandson, Chad Allen Hoffman. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 26, 2006 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Joseph McInnis officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven, Indiana. Military Graveside services will be conducted by the Monroeville American Legion and VFW. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Sunday, June 25, 2006 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Hoagland Fire Dept. and EMS; or the donor's choice.
