Donald J. Miller, 89 years old, and a lifelong resident of Adams County died at 8:20 p.m. Wednesday at his residence following an extended illness. He was born to Chalmer & Lucille (Fleming) Miller on April 4, 1921 in Adams County. On May 23, 1942 he was united in marriage to Mary Helm, who survives. Donald was a member of the Zion United Church of Christ in Decatur. He was a veteran of W.W. II serving in the 985th Signal Service Company of the Allied Forces Headquarters in North Africa and Italy. Following his return to the United States he joined the American Legion Post 43 in Decatur of which he is still a member. Donald retired from Central Soya after 42 yeas of service as a welder and was also was a Union Township Farmer. Family members surviving other than his wife Mary are his daughter Mrs. Curtis (Dianne) Rose of Decatur; a sister, Fayma Geyer and a brother, Paul D. (Eileen) Miller both of Decatur. Also surviving are four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren. Donald was preceded in death by his son Jack Miller in 1978, a sister Boneta Shoaf, and two brothers Eugene N. and Chalmer Miller. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday August 28, 2010 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, with Rev. Donald Brown officiating. Following the service a Military Graveside Honor will be conducted by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard at the Decatur Cemetery where Donald will be buried. Friends will be received by the family on Friday from 2-5 & 6-8 at the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Memorials are requested to be given to the Zion United Church of Christ or the Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
