Marie A. Hobrock, 89 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 3:50 p.m. on Wednesday, January 19, 2011 in the Adams Memorial Hospital located in Decatur. Marie was born on Friday, April 8, 1921 in New Bremen, Ohio the daughter of the late Henry Rempe and the late Anna Wilhelmina "Minnie" (Klosterman) Rempe. She married the late Franklin M. Hobrock on May 28, 1954 in the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Following her graduation from 8th grade and having turned 16, Marie moved to Ft. Wayne and became a housekeeper for a family for many years. This was necessary because during the Great Depression, the oldest child in many families would have to help support the family by earning an income. Following the death of the family she was staying with, Marie began working at Lincoln Life in Ft. Wayne. It was shortly after this time that she met Franklin M. Hobrock at a dance. They were married on May 28, 1954 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ft. Wayne. Following the birth of their first child, she stopped working at Lincoln Life and became a housewife. Frank then preceded her in death on August 2, 2002. During their life together, Frank and Marie enjoyed traveling to many parts of the country. In all their travels, they covered every state in the United States, but North Dakota. Marie was also an artist and enjoyed painting and crafts. Marie was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen. Surviving are her daughter, Christine (John) Applequist of Long Beach, California; daughter, Rosalyn (Jerry Lee) Spindler of Harlan, Indiana; son, Daniel Hobrock of Decatur, Indiana; son, Ray Hobrock of Decatur, Indiana; sister, Linda (Robert) McDermitt of St. Mary's , Ohio; sister, Esther Huebner of Paulding, Ohio; sister, Ruth Rush of Kendallville, Indiana; brother, Thomas (Gloria) Rempe of Greenwood, South Carolina; brother, James (Mary Ann) Rempe of St. Mary's, Ohio; brother, Paul (Dorla) Rempe of St. Mary's, Ohio; four grandchildren: Chelsea Bridge, Jason Spindler, Ian Applequist, and Isabel Applequist. Preceding Marie in death were one brother, Robert Rempe and one sister, Dorothy Delzeith. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 30, 2011 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Rev. John Dreyer officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bingen. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Saturday, January 29, 2011 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday. Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen.
