Mable was born on October 16, 1916 in Allen County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Charlie Hart and the late Susan F. (Simmers) Hart. She married the late Wilfred Jay Smith on September 5, 1936 in Monroeville, Indiana and he passed away on November 24, 1985. Mabel was a member of St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, Indiana; Rosary Society at the church; and a member of the Ladies Card Group. Mable was a homemaker and had worked at the Squeeze `N Restaurant in Monroeville, retiring in 1978 after 17 years of service. Surviving are her daughter, Mrs. Arthur (Marvene Ann) DeWert of Convoy, Ohio, sister, Verniece Schlemmer of Venice, Florida, sister, Mrs. Ralplh (Bonnie) Carrier of New Haven, Indiana, granddaughter, Jeanette L. Fee; grandson, Gary W. DeWert; granddaughter, Babette A. Bland; granddaughter, Nannette F. Wynn; granddaughter, Paulette S. Heuer; granddaughter, Suzette R. McKee; grandson, Gayle A. DeWert; twelve great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Mabel was preceded in death by one sister, Fayma Smith. A 9:30 a.m. Prayer Service will be held Saturday, July 8, 2006 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, with the Fr. Stephen Colchin officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Rose Catholic Church Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2006 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana. A Rosary Service will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Preferred memorials are Masses to the church; or the Monroeville EMS; or Parkview Hospice.
