Helen M. Thieme, 83 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 1:43 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2012 in the Adams Memorial Hospital located in Decatur. Helen was born on Tuesday, June 11, 1929 in Wells County, Indiana the daughter of the late Orval P. Barger and the late Edith C. (Bowman) Barger. She married Otto W. A. Thieme on February 11, 1950 in Immanuel Lutheran Church and he survives. Helen was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Decatur and was also involved with the Ladies Society of the church in addition to teaching Sunday School. She was the past President of the Adams County Extension Homemakers Association. She was a member of the Mary Mixers Home Demonstration Club and was the 2001 Adams County 4-H Fair Grand Marshall along with her husband Otto. An active volunteer in the community, Helen was involved at the Adams Memorial Hospital, Woodcrest Nursing Home, and the American Red Cross. Helen was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Otto W. A. Thieme of Decatur, IN; son, Rickey (LeAnn) Thieme of Decatur, IN; son, Philip Thieme of Decatur, IN; son, Bruce "Checkers" (Patty) Thieme of Decatur, IN; son, Rodney (Darlene) Thieme of Panacea, FL; daughter, Tina Gaskill of Van Wert, OH; daughter, Tonia Stoppenhagen of Bluffton, IN; brother, Richard (Marge) Barger of Craigville, IN; sister, Virgene Bowers of Decatur, IN; sister, Mildred Riley of Monroe, IN; ten grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, nine step-grandchildren, two step-great-grandchildren, two step-great-great-grandchildren. Preceding Helen in death were 1 daughter, Colleen K. Haire-Thullner; 1 grandson, Michael McCombs; 1 great-granddaughter, Paige Clemons; 3 sisters, Marcilla Gerber, Phyllis Reinhart, and Wilma Funk.. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 22, 2012 in the Immanuel Lutheran Church with Rev. Martin Moehring officiating. Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2012 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, IN and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
