Arno C. Girod, 70 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2007 in the Adams Memorial Hospital located in Decatur, Indiana. Arno was born on Sunday, July 4, 1937 in Adams County, Indiana, the son of the late Glen E. Girod and the late Irene M. (Peck) Girod. He married Carolyn A. Hirschy on April 5, 1959 in Magley, Indiana and she survives. Arno was a graduate of Monmouth High School Class of 1955. Arno was member of the Monroe United Brethren Church in Monroe, Indiana where he had been financial secretary for over 25 years; church board member for 39 years; taught Sunday School and held many other offices of the church. Arno had served on the Adams County Farm Bureau Board; Board of Director for Allen Dairy, in Ft. Wayne, Indiana for 8 years and secretary for 5 years. Arno served 9 years in the Indiana Army National Guard from 1955-1964. Arno was a longtime Adams County farmer retiring in 1998. He had also been a driver for D. L. Schwartz Company and Swiss Perfection. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn A. Girod of Decatur, Indiana, daughter, Mrs. Michael (Diane) Ripley of Monroe, Indiana, daughter, Mrs. Terry (Karen) Fawcett of Decatur, Indiana, son, Kevin (Lisa) Girod of Berne, Indiana, daughter, Mrs. Kevin (Denise) Degler of Portland, Indiana, daughter, Mrs. Todd (Amy) Yoder of Churchville, Virginia, brother, Gery (Carol) Girod of Decatur, Indiana, sister, Mrs. Richard (Nyla) Johnson of Pleasant Mills, Indiana, brother, Kent (Charlsie) Girod of Decatur, Indiana, brother, Ron (Susan) Girod of Ossian, Indiana, and twenty grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2007 in the Monroe United Brethren Church with Rev. Troy Green officiating. Interment will follow in the Ray Cemetery, Monroe, Indiana. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday and from 12:00 NOON - 4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Preferred memorials are to Monroe United Brethren Church.
