Mildred M. Garwood, 85 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, April 8, 2009 in the Woodcrest Nursing Center, where she had lived since July of 2008. She was born on Thursday, May 24, 1923 in Ohio City, Ohio the daughter of the late Dewy A. Harmon and the late Myrtle A. (Rumple) Harmon. She married Walter M. Garwood on August 20, 1941 in Decatur and he passed away on February 18, 1980. Mildred was a homemaker and had retired from Royal Lace in Fort Wayne, Indiana. She had also previously been employed by International Harvester and U.S. Rubber Company both in Fort Wayne. She had also been a previous member of the Women of the Moose in Fort Wayne. Surviving are her daughter, Marilyn L. Thompson of Decatur, daughter Rita J. Dentzer of Columbia City, Indiana, son, Richard L. "Butch" (Mary) Garwood of Albion, Indiana, sister, Betty Rolston of Decatur, nine grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Preceding Mildred in death were two sisters, Dorothy Williams & Ruth Weyenberg and two brothers, Merle & Kenneth Harmon . Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Pastor Dan York officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, April 13 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Preferred memorials are to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
