Harold A. Oberley

Harold A. "Tod" Oberley, 88 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 6:55 p.m. on Saturday, November 15, 2008 at his residence following an illness of several months. Tod was born on Sunday, June 20, 1920 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana the son of the late Elmer A. Oberley and the late Cecilia R. (Mourey) Oberley. He married Mary Ellen Sheaks on July 10, 1943 in Alexandria, Louisiana and she passed away on May 17, 2008. Tod was a member of the St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church in New Haven, Indiana; a life member of the American Legion Post #330 in New Haven; and a life member of the V.F.W. #2457 in New Haven. Tod enjoyed auto racing, gardening, flowers, snow mobiling, his family and grandkids. Tod served his country in the United States Army during World War II. Tod was a retired former owner of the Zulu Garage and R-T Sales in Zulu, Indiana. Surviving are his son, Ronald G. Oberley of New Haven, Indiana, daughter, Rita M. (James) Hakes of Monroeville, Indiana, daughter-in-law, Lynne Oberley of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, daughter-in-law, Peggy Oberley of Grabill, Indiana, daughter-in-law, Stephanie Oberley of New Haven, Indiana, sister, Maybelle Feasby of Columbia City, Indiana, sister, Mary Ann Walker of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, sister, Jeanette Castle of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, sister, Carol (Jerry) Mills of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding Tod in death were three sons, Roger, Ricky, Randy Oberley; four brothers, Donald, Elmer "Bugs", Jack (twin), Richard Oberley; three sisters, Marcella Oberley-Felger, Phyllis Alberding, Doris Sephel; and three grandsons, Rodney, Sean and Joel Oberley. A Prayer Service will be held at 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, November 19, 2008 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Louis Besancon Catholic Church with Father Stephen Colchin officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Louis Besancon Catholic Cemetery. Military Graveside Services will be conducted at the cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana with a Rosary Service at 4:00 p.m. Preferred memorials are Masses to the church or Monroeville EMS.
