Doris Ruth Harper, 89 years old of New Haven, Indiana, passed away at 6:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011 in the Parkview Hospital located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Doris was born on Sunday, April 9, 1922 in Allen County, Indiana the daughter of the late Carl E. Stoppenhagen and the late Emilie (Grote) Stoppenhagen. She married the late David W. Harper on November 9, 1962 in New Haven, Indiana and he passed away on January 13, 1975. As a tribute to her husband, Doris established an Engineering Scholarship and Business Scholarship at IPFW - something she was very proud of contributing toward and memorial contributions may also be made to this scholarship in her memory. Doris was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in New Haven, Indiana; the H.E.R.O. Club at Navistar; and the Hoagland Area Advancement Association (HAAA). Doris was a blessing to her extended family, church family, and her community. Doris was a keypunch operator for International Harvester/Navistar for 21 years, retiring in 1982. Prior to her time at Navistar, she worked at Wayne Knitting Mill and Bowser. Surviving are her nephew, Dick (Darlene) Stoppenhagern of Monroeville, Indiana; nephew, Denny Stoppenhagen of Hoagland, Indiana; sister-in-law, Eleanore Harper of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; several great nieces and a great nephew; great-great nieces and great-great-nephew. Preceding Doris in death were one brother, Ray Stoppenhagen; one sister, Helen Dodane; one mother-in-law, Anna Harper; and one brother-in-law, Norman Harper. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 14, 2011 in the St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Dave Williamson officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven, Indiana. Friends will be received from 2 - 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana and one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Preferred memorials are to Worship For Shut-Ins or St. James Lutheran Church-New Haven.
