Robert D. McKean, 86 years old of Bloomington, Indiana and a former longtime resident of Berne, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2009 in the Monroe Hospital located in Bloomington. He was born on Thursday, August 24, 1922 in Berne, Indiana the son of the late Sam Nussbaum and the late Mary (Lehman) Nussbaum. He married Marjorie J. Carroll on June 12, 1951 in Decatur, Indiana and she passed away on November 29, 2001. Robert served his country during World War II in the United States Army Air Corps. Following World War II, he joined the US Air Force Reserves until his discharge in 1953. He was a member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Decatur, Indiana. Robert had been a salesman for 27 years for South Bend Beauty Supply. In addition, he was a self-employed businessman; operating several different companies in several different industries. Surviving are his son, Michael (Melissa) McKean of Bloomington, five grandchildren; Dylan McKean, Scott Hackman, Brad Hackman, Sean McKean & Meagan McKean and three great-grandchildren; Miles McKean, Sammy McKean & Brandon Ford. Preceding Robert in death were one daughter, Susan C. McKean in 2007, one son, Thomas C. McKean in 1990, one brother, Gorman McKean, and one sister, Faye McKean who died in childhood. A prayer service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, August 8, 2009 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church with Father Dave Voors officiating. Interment will follow in the St Joseph Catholic Cemetery with Military Graveside Services to be conducted by the American Legion Post #43. There will be a rosary held at 4:30 p.m. Friday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur with visitation following from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Preferred memorials are to Honor Flight of Northeast Indiana.
