Donald A. Smith, 82 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 10:49 a.m. on Friday, June 25, 2010 in the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana located in Fort Wayne, Indiana following an illness of 5 days. Don was born on Monday, September 19, 1927 in Ft. Wayne, Indiana the son of the late Donald A. Smith and the late Twila (Hipp) Smith. He married the late Nellie V. Giant on September 3, 1949 in the St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, Indiana and she passed away on June 6, 1991. Donald served his country in the United States Army during WWII. Don was a member of the St. Rose Catholic Church in Monroeville, Indiana; American Legion #420 in Monroeville. Don was a retired electrician, retiring in 2001 from Haugk Plumbing & Heating in Decatur, Indiana with 11 years of service; had worked at International Harvester in Ft. Wayne for 20 years; Magnavox in Ft. Wayne for 10 years. Surviving are his sister-in-law, Marietta Rorick of Monroeville, Indiana; special friend of 19 years, Janice Ross of Decatur, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Nellie, Don was preceded in death by one sister, Jean Louise Swyhart. A Prayer Service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in the St. Rose Catholic Church with Father Stephen Colchin officiating. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven, Indiana. Military Graveside Services will be conducted by American Legion and VFW Posts of Monroeville, Indiana. Friends will be received from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2010 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel, Monroeville, Indiana. A Rosary Service will be held at 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Monroeville EMS or Fire Dept; or Masses to the church.
