Herman L. Franz Jr., 86 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 7:13 p.m. on Monday, October 27, 2008 in the Adams Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. Herman had been in failing health and a resident of Woodcrest prior to his death. Herman was born on Thursday, May 4, 1922 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Herman J. Franz Sr. and the late Wilhelmina (Fuelling) Franz. He married B. Aileen Rolape on November 22, 1975 in Decatur, Indiana and she survives. Herman served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling where he served as a trustee, a deacon, and was a longtime member of the church choir. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur, Indiana. Herman was a farmer and livestock dealer. Surviving are his wife, Aileen Franz of Decatur, Indiana, step-son, Paul (Wendy) Miller of Decatur, Indiana, step-son, Phillip (Jane) Miller of Van Wert, Ohio, step-son, Steven A. (Barbara) Miller of Hoagland, Indiana, step-son, Michael Miller of Decatur, Indiana, step-daughter, Marie (Daniel) Gorrell of Marshall, Illinois, step-daughter, Linda (Michael) Mathias of Fishers, Indiana, step-daughter, Roseann (Larry) Sundheimer of Decatur, Indiana, step-son, Robert Miller of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, sister, Ella (Paul) Switzer of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, sister, Vera Witte of Corunna, Michigan, twenty step-grandchildren, nine step-great-grandchildren, four nephews, and one niece. Preceding Herman in death were two step-sons, Daniel and Peter Miller; three brothers, Edwin, Elmer, and Walter Franz; and one nephew, Kevin Franz. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 31, 2008 in the St. Peter Lutheran Church, Fuelling with Rev. Martin Moehring officiating. Interment will follow in the St Peter Lutheran Church Cemetery, Fuelling. Military graveside services will be conducted by Adams Post 43 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, October 30, 2008 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.
