Mary W. Marquardt, 87 years old, a former longtime resident of Monroeville, passed away at 4:48 p.m. Thursday, June 8, 2006 at the University Park Nursing Home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, following an extended illness. She was born on March 18, 1919 in Champaign, Illinois to William E. and Mary E. (Statler) Burgo who are both deceased. On August 31, 1940 she was united in marriage to John A. Marquardt, in Louisville Kentucky, he passed away on October 13, 1981. Marys memberships include: American Legion Auxiliary unit 420 in Monroeville, VFW Auxiliary in New Haven, G.E. Quarter Century Club, G.E. Club, Elex Club at G.E., Monroeville Volunteer Fire Dept. Auxiliary. She also was a volunteer at the V.A. Medical Center in Fort Wayne for 12 years. Mary graduated from Convoy High School, Convoy, Ohio. She was an employee with the General Electric Company in Fort Wayne, Indiana for 40 years, where she operated a machine as a winder. After her retirement from General Electric she worked part-time with Wal-Mart for 8 years. Surviving are her twin sons and her daughters-in-law, Garry and Ann Marquardt of Fort Wayne, and Jerry and Jane Marquardt of Monroeville, sister, Margaret Cook of Decatur. Also surviving are three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Isabel Reinhart and Joan Terry, and three brothers, Warren, Kenneth, and Robert Burgo, and one grandson, Scott Allan Marquardt. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, June 12, 2006 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Jacobs Chapel in Monroeville, Indiana, with Rev. John Dimarzio officiating. Interment will follow in the Monroeville Memorial Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Sunday, June 11, 2006 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred Memorials are requested to the Monroeville Volunteer Fire Department or Alzheimers Association of Greater Indiana.
