Leona L. Berning, 90 years old of Monroeville, Indiana, passed away at 5:30 a.m. on Friday, June 8, 2007 in the Village of Heritage located in Monroeville. Leona was born on July 10, 1916 in Adams County, Indiana, the daughter of the late Gustav Miller and the late Martha (Conrad) Miller. She married the late Elbert C. Berning on June 2, 1949 in the Zion Lutheran Church, Friedheim in rural Decatur, Indiana and he passed away on August 15, 1991. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Old Decatur Road, in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Leona was also a homemaker. Surviving are her son, Eugene W. (Sylvia) Berning of Decatur, Indiana, son, Steven A. (Marlene) Berning of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, six grandchildren: Mark, Dale, Todd, Lyle, Ben, and Kelsey Berning; and four great-grandchildren: Ethan, Noah, Hannah, and Myra Berning. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2007 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Greg Cynova officiating. Interment will follow in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Friends will be received from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 10, 2007 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Trinity Lutheran Church; or Village of Heritage Nursing Home.
