Gladys W. (Darr) Derr, 90 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 11:24 a.m. on Sunday, December 6, 2009 in the Parkview Hospital located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Gladys was born on Friday, August 22, 1919 in Adams County, Indiana the daughter of the late Reuben M. Wynn and the late Sophia K. (Gross) Wynn. She married Dwight F. Darr on December 21, 1944 and he passed away in June of 1971. She married her second husband, Lawrence W. "Larry" Derr on June 10, 1978 and he survives. Gladys was a member of the St. Mark's United Methodist Church where she was active in the Rebecca Circle and held other various offices in the church. She was a volunteer at a hospital in Canandaigua, New York for six years and at the House of Hope, also in New York, for eight years. Gladys was a cook and manager of various restaurants, owned and operated along with her husband, Dwight. The Family Restaurant in Wren, Ohio. She also had worked at Richard's, Pioneer, Village Green, General Electric of Decatur and Wayne Novelty. Surviving are her husband, Lawrence W. "Larry" Derr of Decatur, Indiana, daughter, Cheryl (Jerry) Kelsey of Willshire, Ohio, son, James A. Darr of Monroeville, Indiana, step-daughter, Marilyn Derr of Boone, North Carolina, step-daughter, Barbara Derr of Fort Wayne, Indiana, seven grandchildren: David & Tony Crabill; Debra Kelsey; Lisa Pickford; Julie Noble; J.J. & Steve Darr; ten great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren. Preceding Gladys in death were one son, Jerry Walthers and one daughter, Judith A. Crabill, three brothers, five sisters, and two grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 10, 2009 in the Woodcrest Porter Chapel with Rev. John Follett and Rev. Fuhrman Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Indiana. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, December 9, 2009 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Thursday in the Porter Chapel at Woodcrest. Preferred memorials are to St. Mark's United Methodist Church; Adams County Community Foundation Cancer Fund; or the Adams County Community Foundation Heart Fund.
