Ernest Roe, 83 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 in the Adams Memorial Hospital. He was born on Tuesday, August 23, 1927 in Adams County, Indiana the son of the late Fred J. Roe and the late Daisy (Galloway) Roe. He married Betty Lee Fickert on September 28, 1957 in Ohio City, Ohio. Ernest served in the United States Army from 1950 to 1954 where he served in Korea during part of his military service. Ernest was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Ohio City, Ohio and the American Legion Post #43 in Decatur. He was also a member of the Adams County Coon Hunter's Club and the Pleasant Mills Lions Club. He retired in 1992 from Central Soya with forty-nine years of service. Surviving are his wife, Betty Lee Roe of Decatur, son, Randy E. (Kim) Roe of Decatur and three grandchildren; Logan, Parker & Mallorie Roe. Preceding Ernest in death were three sisters; Wilma Hough, Lillian Kincaid & Helen Davis and four brothers; Delmas, Clifford, Robert, & Raymond Roe. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday in the St. John Lutheran Church, 202 Dillon Street, Ohio City, Ohio with Rev. Denise Brown officiating. Interment will follow in the Backesto Cemetery in rural Monroe, Indiana with Military Graveside Services conducted by American Legion Post #43 in Decatur. Friends will be received from 12 noon to 3 p.m. & from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur and on Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church or Muscular Dystrophy Association.
