Richard M. Butlemeier, 84 years old of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away at 1:09 p.m. on Monday, June 8, 2009 in the Lutheran Hospital of Indiana located in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Richard was born on Wednesday, July 16, 1924 in Allen County, Indiana the son of the late Louis Bultemeier and the late Irma (Doehrman) Bultemeier. He married Jean M. Krugh on May 28, 1949 and they had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Richard was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen where he had held every office in the church except president. He was also a member of the American Legion Post #43 of Decatur. Richard was a veteran of the United States Navy serving in the South Pacific Theatre during World War II. Richard enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and spending time with his family. Richard retired from the Broadway General Electric plant in Ft. Wayne, Indiana with 41 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Jean M. Bultemeier of Hoagland, Indiana, son, Jeffrey D. (Patty) Bultemeier of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, daughter, Joyce A. (David) Smock of Hoagland, Indiana, granddaughter, Angela Smock of Hoagland, Indiana, granddaughter, Amy (Kurt) Frecker of Hoagland, Indiana, granddaughter, Beth (Matt) Baumert of Monroeville, Indiana, grandson, Brandon Bultemeier of Convoy, Ohio, great-grandson, Carter Frecker, great-granddaughter, Claire Baumert, great-granddaughter, Lydia Baumert. Preceding Richard in death were one son, James L. Bultemeier on July 30, 1974 and two brothers, Norman and Vern Bultemeier. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 12, 2009 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor John Dreyer officiating. Interment will follow in the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Bingen. Military services will be conducted by American Legion Post #43 Color Guard. Friends will be received from 2-5 and 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana and one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen; Wyneken Lutheran School; or the donor's choice.
