Carl O. McConnell, 92 of Fort Wayne, died Sunday at 5:55 a.m. in the Lutheran Home, where he had been a patient for the past three days. He was born on February 2, 1916 in Van Wert, Ohio to the late James L. and Nora P. (Finkenhousen) McConnell. He was united in marriage on April 10, 1937 in Columbia City, Indiana to Martha "Elaine" Gaffer who survives. Carl retired in 1976 from the N & W Railroad, after 38 years of service as a locomotive engineer. He was a member of the Grace Gathering Church in New Haven, Moose Lodge 1311 in Decatur, Legion of the Moose and Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers. Other than his dear wife, survivors include one sister, Ruth J. Roe of Indianapolis, and two nephews, Terry Sieger of Woodburn, and Mike Sieger of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, great-nephew, Randy Sieger of Woodburn, Indiana, great-nephew, Rod Sieger of New Haven, Indiana, great-niece, Teresa Warnock of Woodburn,Indiana, and a friend, Lesa Hunt of Antwerp, Ohio. One sister, Edna Preston preceded him in death. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur with burial in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4-8 p.m. Preferred Memorials are to the Grace Gathering Church, New Haven.
