James L. Meyer, 84 years old and a longtime resident of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2007 in the Chalet Village located in Berne, where he had resided since 2003. He was born on Wednesday, January 11, 1922 in Linn Grove, Indiana the son of the late Melvin Meyer and the late Cora (Ellenberger) Meyer. He married June Dubach on June 1, 1947 in Rockville, Indiana. James served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Zion United Church of Christ and the American Legion Post #43. James worked as a mechanic at Balsiger's in Berne, Indiana from 1947 to 1956 and then owned and operated the Shell Station on 13th Street in Decatur from 1956 to 1960. He retired in 1986 from Decatur General Electric with 25 years of service and then worked at Meyer's Body Shop in Decatur. Surviving are his wife, June Meyer of Decatur, Indiana, daughter, Mrs. Steve (Jennifer) Straub of Decatur, Indiana, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Preceding James in death were one son, Joe L. Meyer who died in 1994 and three brothers, Robert, Herbert & Wayne Meyer. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 9, 2007 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Rossman officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 8 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Preferred memorials are to Family Hospice of Northeast Indiana.
