Gertrude L. Deister, 99, of Hoagland, Indiana, passed away at 11:40 p.m. Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Woodview Healthcare in Fort Wayne, Indiana where she had been a resident for the past year. Gertrude was born on February 4, 1910 in Marion Township, Allen County, Indiana the daughter of the late William Scheumann and the late Emma (Oetting) Scheumann. She married Hermann Deister on May 8, 1943 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and he passed away on December 15, 1973. Gert was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen. She was involved in the Ladies Aid, LWML and St. Johns Guild and also the Hoagland Area Advancement Associationi where she was the Grand Marshall of the 2000 Hoagland Days Event. Gert was employed at General Electric for fourteen years and was a volunteer at Lutheran Hospital for seventeen years. Surviving are her daughter, Nancy J. Sprague of Fort Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Connie K. (Wayne) Carstens of Ninety Six, South Carolina; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Preceding Gert in death were six brothers: Walter, Harold, Wilbert, Emil, Herbert, and William Scheumann Jr. and five sisters: Adella Thompson, Agnes Hockemeyer, Emma Hollman, Luella Oehler, and Velma Hockemeyer. Funeral services will be he at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen with Pastor John Dreyer officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends will be receivedfrom 2:00 " 6:00 p.m. Sunday, January 10, 2010 in the St. John Lutheran Church, Bingen and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Preferred memorials are to the church or the donors choice.
