Raymond C. Mcahren

Raymond C. McAhren, 95 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away at 1:07 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2007 in the Adams Memorial Hospital. Raymond was a longtime resident of Decatur, but had resided at Swiss Village in Berne, Indiana for the past two years. Raymond was born on June 26, 1912 in Clinton County, Indiana the son of the late Samuel James McAhren and the late Emily (Boyer) McAhren. He married the late Delila Adams on June 28, 1936 in Monroe, Indiana. She passed away on June 23, 1996. Raymond was a 60 year member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Decatur, Indiana; which is now the Solid Rock Church of the Nazarene. He was also an adult Sunday School teacher for many years. Raymond was a lifetime farmer and had worked at Decatur Casting for 25 years, retiring on January 4, 1976. Since 1993, Raymond has been a humor columnist with the "Farmer Stick-in-the-Mud" column in newspapers in 26 states and locally in the Decatur Daily Democrat, Bluffton News Banner & the Berne Shopping News. Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Nina (Jerry) Workinger of Estill Springs, Tennessee, daughter, Miriam Jackson of Berne, Indiana, seven grandchildren including Brenda (Phil) Kizzee of Columbus, Ohio, Pam (Mike) Woudstra of Newaygo, Michigan, Julie (Jeff) Luginbill of Decatur, Indiana, Troy (Carol) Jackson of Monroe, Indiana, Anthony (Krissa) Jackson of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Scott Workinger of Palm Springs, California, & Annette (Jack) Noe of Flintville, Tennessee; two step-grandchildren, Robin Alberts of Berne, Indiana, Jenny (Ken) Johnson of South Lyon, Michigan; eleven great-grandchildren: Andy (Susan) Kizzee of Memphis, Tennessee, Austin Kizzee of Columbus, Ohio, Melissa (Shawn) Fessenden of Marion, Indiana, Michele Woudstra of Newaygo, Michigan, Hannah, Isaac, Elizabeth & Sarah Luginbill all of Decatur, Indiana, Jace Noe of Flintville, Tennessee, MacKenzie and Raymond Jackson of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; and five step-great-grandchildren, Maria (Mark) Lemler of Uniondale, Indiana, Sydney, Erick, Luke & Bethany Johnson all of South Lyon, Michigan. Preceding Raymond in death were one daughter, Mrs. Ellen (Rodger) Frey in 1979; one grandson, Ray Workinger in 1986; four brothers, Leo, Paul, Floyd, and Otto McAhren Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 20, 2007 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Pastor Phil Kizzee, and Pastor Tony Moser officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Indiana. Friends will be received from 2-4 and 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, September 19, 2007 in the Zwick and Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur, Indiana. Preferred memorials are to Mission Fund Nazarene Church.
