Helen E. Haubold, 98 years old of Decatur, Indiana, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2009 in the Woodcrest Nursing Center where she had been a resident since August 2001. She was born on Monday, April 25, 1910 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of Otto H. Carrie (Thomas) Haubold. Helen was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Research Club and Tri-Kappa Sorority. She was also a member of the Adams County Retired Teachers Association and the Indiana Retired Teachers Association. Helen was a graduate of Indiana University School of Music. She retired in 1974 as a music educator with 42 years of service working for Decatur Public Schools and then North Adams Community Schools. At the time of her retirement, she was the choral director at Bellmont High School where she started the Brave Generation in 1968. Surviving are her cousins. Preceding Helen in death were one brother, Thomas W. Haubold and one sister, Louise Dailey. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home with Rev. Ken Mahan officiating. Interment will follow in the Decatur Cemetery. Friends will be received from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at Tuesday at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to First United Methodist Church.
