Gertrude Bittner 93, of Decatur passed away at 7:15 a.m., Wednesday September 10, 2008 in the Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne. She was born December 3, 1914 in Adams County to the late Rudolph and Bertha (Bultemeier) Buuck. On April 10, 1937 Gertrude was united in marriage Herman M. Bittner, who survives. Gertrude was a homemaker and a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble where she had been active in the Ladies Aid and Sewing Society. She had been active in the American Legion Auxiliary, Post #43 where she served as past president, financial secretary & Poppy chairman for 16 years and was past president of the Indiana 4th District. Surviving other than her husband, Herman, are one daughter-in-law, Carol Bittner and one sister, Hildegard Conrad both of Decatur. Gertrude was preceded in death by one son, Larry D. Bittner in February 2004, one daughter Susan K. Black in June of 1998, three sisters, Alvina Dettmer, Meta Dettmer & Adele Roembke and one brother, Erwin Buuck. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday September 13, 2008 in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Preble with burial in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Friends will be received from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Friday in the Zwick & Jahn Funeral Home, Decatur. Preferred memorials are requested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or to the Worship for Shut-Ins
